I was born in Japan, just outside Tokyo, in a US Army Medical Hospital. My father was serving in the Army during the Vietnam war and was stationed in Japan when I was born. At 10 months old my family returned to live in Murray, Utah, and I have resided in the Salt Lake Valley ever since. I grew up in Murray and West Valley City, attending public schools in the Murray and Granite school districts. I graduated from Skyline High School and went on to graduate from the University of Utah with bachelors degrees in Sociology and Economics. I have lived my adult life in Salt Lake City’s Avenues neighborhood, Kearns, and have made my home in Sandy since 2006.

In 1990 I took a part-time job with KeyBank as a drive through teller, and I have worked in banking continuously since then in various capacities. I have specialized in Commercial Real Estate lending since 1997. This profession has given me the opportunity to get to know many people in our community and to watch our valley grow from a point of view not available to many.

Of course, all work and no play can have some negative consequences. For fun I enjoy playing the guitar, skiing, hiking, reading, woodworking, gardening and watching some of my favorite programs such as Lost and 24. I also enjoy cooking breakfast for my daughters and baking bread and cookies for my family and friends.

I am married to Sherrie Harding, who is a Registered Nurse working at the operating room at University of Utah Hospital. My daughters both attend public school in the Jordan school district.

My wife, daughters and extended family have all been excited and supportive of my run for public office, and I want to thank them for their strength and support.

As you can imagine, my ties to this community are strong, as is my desire to see it improve and grow in ways that are sustainable and preserve the quality of life that we all now enjoy. This race for the open Seat 6 on the Salt Lake County Council represents my first run for political office but not my first community service. I was honored to serve for three years on the School Trust Lands Community Council at Western Hills Elementary and as a precinct chair in 1999. I am motivated by a desire to serve my community and to help be a part of positive change. Please visit my Issues page to read about areas where I feel progress is most important.

I would love to hear from you with your questions and comments, and ask for your vote on November 4.

With Best Regards,

-Roger
